Topic No.25: The Role of Homeroom Teachers vs. Subject Teachers บทบาทครูประจำชั้นและครูประจำวิชา

If I am the homeroom teacher for Class M.2/3, which has 9 subject teachers, the subject teachers are responsible for teaching and assigning homework. Meanwhile, the homeroom teacher has the duty of mentoring, strengthening good habits, and reminding students in their class to focus on their studies, read regularly, and complete assignments given by subject teachers. The homeroom teacher may also track and ensure that students submit their work weekly, such as every Friday.

Normally, subject teachers would grade assigned work themselves or provide answer keys for students to self-check or self-assess their work. However, a subject teacher may occasionally delegate some grading tasks to the homeroom teacher based on given assessment criteria. (If the subject teacher does not provide grading guidelines, the homeroom teacher may use their creation, assuming they have sufficient knowledge of the subject.)

Key principles a homeroom teacher should follow:

·Teaching content should align with what the subject teacher has specified.

·The homeroom teacher may offer additional guidance or tutoring, but it should not contradict the subject teacher’s instructions, as this could confuse students.

·If the homeroom teacher identifies flaws in the content, they should inform the subject teacher rather than criticizing them in front of the class or expressing opposing views to make themselves appear more knowledgeable.

·During seminars or discussions with students, the homeroom teacher may have different perspectives from the subject teacher on certain issues. However, they should clarify to students that the core concepts of the subject remain consistent, even if individuals interpret details differently—this is normal.

·Teachers or Student-teachers should keep in mind that:

· "By nature, many concepts in social sciences are theories (Theory) that have been tested but the conclusions are not fixed laws (Law) like scientific knowledge. Even when social science theories are research-backed, there is still a 1-5% error in every finding."

· This kind of guidance helps student-teachers develop resilient thinking (Resilience), reducing conflicts in group work or team-based social tasks.

ถ้าผมเป็นครูประจำชั้น ม.2/3 ซึ่งมีครูผู้สอน 9 รายวิชา ครูประจำรายวิชามีหน้าที่สอน มอบหมายการบ้าน ครูประจำชั้น หรือ Homeroom Teacher ก็ทำหน้าที่อบรม บ่มนิสัย เตือนสติให้นักเรียนในห้องของตน ตั้งใจเรียน อ่านหนังสืออย่างสม่ำเสมอ ทำการบ้านตามที่ครูประจำวิชามอบหมาย อาจติดตามให้ส่งงานให้ครบเป็นรายสับดาห์ทุกวันศุกร์ ตามปกติครูประจำวิชาคงจะตรวจงานที่มอบหมายด้วยตนเอง หรือมีแนวคำตอบให้นักเรียนตรวจสอบตัวเองหรือประเมินชิ้นงานตนเองได้ด้วย... แต่ก็เป็นไปได้ ที่ครูประจำวิชาอาจฝากให้ครูประจำชั้นตรวจงานให้ด้วยในบางชิ้นตามเกณฑ์การประเมินที่กำหนด(ถ้าเขาไม่กำหนดแนวการตรวจไว้ให้ ก็ให้อยู่ในดุลยพินิจการตรวจของครูประจำชั้น ที่น่าจะมีความในรู้ในเรื่องต่างๆ เหล่านั้นอยู่เช่นกัน) สิงที่ครูประจำชั้นควรยึดถือ คือ 1) เนื้อหาสาระในการสอน ให้เป็นไปตามที่ครูประจำวิชากำหนด 2) ครูประจำชั้นอาจแนะนำหรือติวได้บ้าง แต่ก็ไม่ควรจะขัดแย้งกับครูประจำวิชา เพราะอาจทำให้ผู้เรียนสับสนได้ 3) ในกรณีที่เห็นว่าเนื้อหาสาระมีความบกพร่องก็ควรให้ข้อมูลกับครูประจำวิชา ไม่ควรตำหนิครูประจำวิชาให้นักเรียนในห้องฟัง หรือแสดงความคิดเห็นขัดแย้งเพื่อให้นักเรียนในห้องเห็นว่า ครูประจำชั้นคนนี้ก็ยอดเยี่ยมในวิชานี้เหมือนกัน 4) ในกรณีที่มีการสัมมนาเพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนเรียนรู้กับนักเรียนในห้อง ครูประจำชั้นอาจมีมุมมองต่างไปจากครูประจำวิชาได้ในบางเรื่อง แต่ก็ควรชี้ให้ผู้เรียนเห็นว่า แกนหลัก ๆของเนื้อหาวิชามันตรงกัน เพราะบุคคลแต่ละคนอาจมีมุมมองในรายละเอียดในเรื่องนั้นๆ แตกต่างกันได้ เป็นเรื่องปกติ... การชี้แนะเช่นนี้ เป็นการสอนให้ผู้เรียนได้รับทราบว่า "โดยธรรมชาติ(By Nature)ข้อความรู้ทางสังคมศาสตร์ จำนวนมากเป็นเพียง แนวคิด ทฤษฎี(Theory) ที่ผ่านการพิสูจน์มาแล้ว แต่ไม่ใช่กฏตายตัว(Law) อย่างองค์ความรู้ทางวิทยาศาสตร์" การผ่านการพิสูจน์หรือผ่านการวิจัยในทางสังคมศาสตร์มาแล้ว หมายถึงว่ายังมีโอกาสเกิดความคลาดเคลื่อนอยู่บ้าง 1-5 % ทุกเรื่อง

การชี้แนะตามแนวทางข้างต้นนี้ จะทำให้ผู้เรียนเป็นผู้คิดยืดหยุ่น(Resilience) ลดความขัดแย้งในการทำงานกลุ่ม หรือการทำงานเป็นทีมในทางสังคม
